BOOKING & PAYMENT

Book directly at night-watchman.net – just click the Book Now button and choose your tour, date and time. You can also find us on GetYourGuide, Viator, Airbnb Experiences and Civitatis. Booking directly through our website means you’re booking with us directly. Which is, frankly, how we like it.

As early as possible -especially for the German Nightwatchman tour, which sells out faster than any other product we offer. We recommend booking at least a week in advance in peak season (May-October). Same-day booking is sometimes available but not guaranteed. The plague doctor does not hold spots.

All major credit and debit cards are accepted through our booking system (FareHarbor). Payment is made at the time of booking. We do not accept cash on the day or garlic beer as currency – though the plague doctor has considered it.

Yes! Gift vouchers are available directly through night-watchman.net. A plague doctor experience makes an excellent gift – considerably more memorable than socks, and significantly less deadly than the actual plague. Contact us at info@night-watchman.net for gift voucher enquiries.

For private group bookings (from €220 for up to 10 people) the per-person cost is often lower than booking individual open tour tickets. Contact us directly at info@night-watchman.net for group pricing. We work with corporate teams, school groups, university classes and hen parties – anyone who needs a plague doctor or a nightwatchman at short notice.

Yes – contact us at info@night-watchman.net with your booking details and company information and we’ll issue an invoice. We are a registered Czech company (VAT no. CZ19842198) so all necessary documentation is available.

CANCELLATION & CHANGES

Full refund if cancelled at least 2 hours before the tour start time in writing. No refund for cancellations within 2 hours or no-shows. The plague doctor showed up every day in 1713. We expect similar commitment – though we acknowledge the circumstances were considerably more extreme.

Yes – contact us at info@night-watchman.net as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Changes are subject to availability. We always try to find a solution – unlike the plague, we are flexible.

In the rare event that we need to cancel – due to extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances – you will receive a full refund or the option to rebook. We will contact you as soon as possible. In 400 years of night watching and 10 years of plague doctoring, we have an excellent track record. The plague doctor and the nightwatchman do not cancel lightly.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The Plague Doctor meets in front of the entrance to Hotel Aurus, Seminářská 2, Prague 1 (near Klementinum). The Nightwatchman meets directly in front of the Powder Gate (Prášná brána), Náměstí Republiky 1090/5, Prague 1. In both cases: look for a person in historical costume carrying either a beaked mask and leather bag or a two-metre halberd and a big hat. You will not miss them.

Both meeting points are easily accessible:

  • Plague Doctor (Hotel Aurus, Klementinum): Metro line A – Staroměstská station, 5 minutes walk. Tram stop Staroměstská.
  • Nightwatchman (Powder Gate): Metro line B – Náměstí Republiky station, 2 minutes walk. Tram stop Náměstí Republiky.

Prague’s Old Town is a pedestrian zone – driving directly to the meeting points is not possible. The nearest parking is at Palladium shopping centre (Náměstí Republiky, next to the Powder Gate meeting point) or at various parking garages around the Old Town. We strongly recommend public transport – it’s faster, cheaper and considerably less stressful.

Absolutely – and we encourage it! Both characters make excellent subjects. The group photo at the end of each tour is a highlight for many guests. Please be mindful of other members of your group when stopping to photograph. The plague doctor’s leather bag is particularly photogenic.

Both tour routes are flat and accessible – no stairs, no steep terrain. Prague’s cobblestones can be uneven in places but the routes are manageable for most mobility levels. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. Please let us know in advance if you have specific accessibility needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Our guides are experienced at adapting their pace and delivery for non-native speakers. We also offer tours in German, Spanish, Portuguese and Czech – please check our website for the full schedule. If English is your second language, don’t let it stop you – the halberd and the beaked mask are internationally understood.

ABOUT LIGHT IN THE DARK

Yes – Light in the Dark s.r.o. is a registered Czech company (ID: 19842198, VAT: CZ19842198). All our guides are licensed and insured. Our Nightwatchmen are a members of the Europäische Nachtwächter- und Türmerzunft – the European Nightwatchman Guild. We take our medieval credentials seriously.

Yes – we regularly work with corporate teams for both private tours and storytelling training workshops. Past clients include The Lego Group, Airbnb and Anglo American University. Contact us at info@night-watchman.net for corporate enquiries and we’ll put together a proposal. A private plague doctor experience is, we can confirm, significantly more memorable than a team dinner.

Yes – The Art of Storytelling is our professional workshop programme, available as a 1.5-2 hour session or a full 8-hour course, online or in person in Prague. Because if a plague doctor can hold your attention for 90 minutes, there’s really no excuse for a boring presentation.

Email us at info@night-watchman.net or call +420 608 100 763. We respond promptly – considerably faster than the 17th century postal system, and with a much lower risk of plague transmission.
